Most useless company I have ever dealt with! Unfortunately for me I was scammed by a third party merchant who was meant to sell me 3 airline tickets. After having checked if the tickets were real with the airline company, I later realised that they were fake. I paid half the amount through Monzo (who processed my refund in less than a month with minimal interaction) but made the horrible mistake of paying the other half through American Express. It has been half a year since I started debating with them about the refund after having provided e-mail proof from the airline saying the tickets issued to me were completely bogus. The response by American Express is laughable, stating: “we require a copy of the refund notice or confirmation from the merchant indicating that a refund is due. Otherwise, confirmation received from the merchant advising services will not be provided”Essentially, American Express would like me to contact the merchant who scammed me and ask for my money back. Abhorrent! I have asked during the course of the last 6 months to receive a call from their infamous dispute team but have been told they don’t have the facility to do so (I’m a bit confused confused by this - does American Express not provide their staff with a phone?) and still to this day am fighting an unnecessary battle with their feeble minded dispute team.
