I have been using Duolingo for around 2 years. For the 1st year I used it for free but I was so impressed with the company and that they gave the system to schools for free I decided that I would pay a year's subscription for 2023 as my thank you to them. This year I had other priorities so I cancelled my membership for 2024. Duolingo have retaliated by making it almost impossible for me to continue using the system as a free service. After several minutes of starting a lesson I'm told I don't have enough "hearts" to continue so of course I should buy "Super" Duolingo, I'm assailed by constant pop ups to by the "Super" program, so it's certainly no longer a free program for me. So my good intention has been rewarded by me no longer being able to use the service. Very, very disappointed & of course attempting to get in touch with them is impossible.
