Booked hotel in California for my children and I to go to Universal studios. My 10 year old had a medical emergency, which I have proof of, so I spoke with hotel they said it is fine as long as you cancel through the third party website you booked through within 24 hours. I cancelled more than 24 hours in advance and they will not give me my refund. It was my first time ever booking a hotel on my own and going on vacation with my family. Hotels.com made it a horrible experience on top of my little one getting sick. I will NEVER book through them again, and will let everyone I know not to book through them as well.
