The Nest thermostat is completely unreliable. We are now on our third thermostat and the heating system is only three years old. It is that bad that Google have had to set up specialist teams to scrap and replace faulty devices. The engineer who replaced ours said he works full time on replacing faulty Google Nest equipment and his company now employs 14 other engineers to do exactly the same thing. The problem with the 3rd Generation Nest has been known to Google for at least three years, and yet they still market them. It isn't just the inconvenience of complete heating shutdown, or the excessively long complexity of convincing Google that Nest has shut down(even when their own monitoring system has told them its broken) , or the cost of having to use electric fan heaters whilst waiting for repairs - heating is essential to the safety and health of the elderly and the young, and the dangers of days without heat in mid winter cannot be understated. Google have a responsibility and yet they cynically continue to sell unreliable equipment. They will replace the failed equipment free of charge if arranged through their complex and time consuming replacement program, but that is not good enough. (The fact they have a replacement program speaks volumes!)
