It appears that Wells Fargo is still taking part in some iffy banking practices. For years I have found it amazingly simple to connect all my financial accounts together, all except Wells Fargo of course. With all other banks the first time link up takes a couple of minutes only. With Wells Fargo it takes forever, they make you jump through extra hoops, and then deny you access at the very end and make you go through a couple of days process with the two deposit verification. I'm guessing they hope you will give up before doing that. Bad practice.
