Disappointed with Shopify's Lack of Customer Protection

I recently had a terrible experience with a store hosted on Shopify, Gift Cards Heaven. I purchased a gift card for ClassPass, which turned out to be fraudulent. When my recipient tried to redeem it, the card was declined, and the store has since disappeared.Despite checking reviews on Reddit and Trustpilot before making the purchase, I found no red flags. However, Shopify's lack of due diligence and accountability is alarming. They allow fraudulent merchants to operate on their platform, putting customers at risk. When I reached out for assistance, the response was inadequate, merely shifting the responsibility back onto me.Shopify needs to improve their security measures and take responsibility for the merchants they host. Until then, I would advise caution when purchasing from stores on their platform.

IMPOSSIBLE TO RETURN AN ITEM

It has been impossible to request a return for an online item that I purchased from Mercari, even though I followed all their guidelines. I clearly outlined several times my reason for wanting to return an item, I sent and resent photos per their request ( although I kept getting emails from them stating that they did not have that information) and I strictly followed their time guidelines. I always interfaced with different representatives online and via emails and no-one ever followed up . Emails and phone conversations indicated false statements on their part. It turned out that I lost hours of my valuable time.Finally on 12/30/24 toward the end of the year, they said that the case was closed!

I have been trying to close 3 accounts…

I have been trying to close 3 accounts for over a year. 2 of which we never used and one we used very little. I have called 3 times in the last 2 months and keep getting billed for the monthly fees, even though I have a ticket number for the closure. One of the accounts is charged $124.95/month because it won't combine with the others for PCI compliance. The first time I called to close the rep told me she would, at least, get them combined so that charge would not appear. I have now been on hold for over 20 minutes today, after I have spoken to 2 representatives. The worst part of this is that I never wanted these accounts in the first place... somehow they were part of a regular merchant service program with FirstData. I am still on hold and was told that the rep can't close my accounts and she needs to call another number (that just happens to be the number I called and got her on~!) Can anyone tell me how to actually get ahold of someone who is authorized to close my accounts???

Like many reviewers, I never received a timely refund for a PS5 Controller purchased in November. Getting help via chat or call is virtually impossible (with 100+ people in the queue). I suggest claiming a refund via your credit card provider - I did this and the refund suddenly got processed by Sony within a couple of days of submitting my claim!

Why is it such a secret that Delta no longer gives one single mile to those who buy its overpriced, low value, ultra-uber hassle “Basic Economy “ fares? This despite the fact that the miles have already been grossly devalued and are probably heading for total gutting shortly. This industry was bailed out by the taxpayers over and over. Love the shortsighted airline bean counting that makes them so despised and helps guarantee that they will never truly be reliably profitable over the long haul. 100 miles is worth like 25 cents nowadays-and their fixation on pocketing that quarter will cost them thousands from me alone.

We are a multifaceted corporation with branches in Auto Repair, recruiting, fabrication, and services. We recently attempted to use Indeed to hire employees and they said our account needed to be authenticated. We have Articles of incorportion, IRS EIN numbers, Utility Bills at our address. We couldnt get past the verification questions verbally asked by and authenticator agent because we basically dont remember our responses previously provided, about gross revenue etc. They never got to any email provision to provide documents above. 2 months later they contact us to provide those documents,but we had moved on to another provider. It seems offshoring the authenticators resulted in los business and revenue for Indeed. We hired through another site that we could actually interface with. I guess they didnt want the Money, LOL

Online chat support team incapable, terrible service! Within just 2 hours of making a booking, I reached out to support and the Royal Atlantis hotel directly. I was reassured again and again that my urgent request had been made to the hotel that my 4 year old son must come with us. It is our 10 year wedding anniversary chose hotels.com to book our hotel with and our requests have still not been met. Literally within hours I asked as I spotted my boy was not included, 24 hours later and I am still being messed around. I demand an urgent update hotels.com - you cannot treat customers like this - even the supervisor has no clue. All they have to do is call the hotel - incapable bunch of so and so's - I am shocked.

I’ve been an eBay member for over 20 years, and recently experienced what I can only describe as a systemic breakdown disguised as customer service.After receiving multiple retaliatory and abusive feedbacks from a single buyer — including at least one that clearly violated eBay’s own feedback policy — a postal issue that was 100% out of my control and which I offered multiple goodwill solutions to address anyway, I contacted support. One phone agent openly admitted the comment breached their guidelines, even using the phrase “called you out of your name,” yet no meaningful action was taken.Instead, I was handed off to other agents who contradicted that admission, directed me back to automated systems that had already failed me, and finally sent a templated email claiming the case was closed — all while insisting eBay supports sellers and values fairness. The dissonance was staggering.This wasn’t just poor customer service. It was procedural gaslighting — a closed loop where my clarity was met with carefully crafted deflections and non-answers. Meanwhile, my business suffered. My most consistent weekend product saw an immediate and unexplained sales drop. The timing is no coincidence.This experience has shaken my trust in eBay’s integrity as a platform. Not because of a single bad buyer — they happen. But because eBay had the chance to act, to align its words with its policies, and it chose silence and spin instead.I’m sharing this not out of spite, but because I believe others deserve to know what really happens when you ask eBay to stand by its rules. I hope this helps someone else feel less alone in a similar experience.
