After 46 years, AAA Screwed Me Over.

I've had AAA homeowner's insurance (bundled with auto) for several years in Florida. This year they increased my premium for renewal by a ridiculous amount. I can say that AAA Road Service has always provided great service - I've been a member since the 1970's. But because they raised my homeowner's cost so much, I looked elsewhere for that before renewing. I purchased a homeowner's policy from a different provider at a much better rate. As part of the application process, I stated that I had no claims in the past 5 years. Three weeks later I received a cancellation notice from my new insurer due to an "undisclosed previous claim." I protested with the insurance company but they refused to budge. I called AAA to get confirmation that I had made no claims. The "customer service" person Mike - using the term customer service lightly here - said I have a claim. I said no, he said "yes you do." No, I don't. "Yes you do." Every time I asked him something he just said "you have a claim." He was very short and confrontational. He didn't offer what the claim was, or any information about it, or offer to help me investigate it. Just repeated "you have a claim." Rude guy. Finally, I got out of him what the claim was - a golf ball through my window. One of my neighbors had told me that since a window was broken, I would have to replace all the windows in the house to comply with the current code. I called AAA to ask about this. They said no, that wasn't accurate. OK, thank you, and I hung up. Didn't give it another thought. I finally got out of Mike that AAA had made a claim on my policy for a broken window. " I never made a claim for a broken window" I said. "You have a claim," Mike said. AAA had created a claim on my policy because of my making a phone call and asking a question! I asked Mike to send a copy of the claim to my email. Then I asked to speak with a supervisor. Mike said all the supervisors were on the phone. I said I'll wait. "You can't do that". Why? "I can't have my line tied up with you on hold that long." Mike said he'll go and find a supervisor and have him call me. And he would email me a copy of the claim. He never did either. A week later, I called the same customer service number. Mike answered. Without bringing up the previous call, I asked him to send me a copy of the claim, and a copy of the Loss History Report, which would show that the claim in question was for zero dollars. He said he would. Of course he didn't. The fact that "Mike" answered both times I called tells me that "Mike" was sitting in his kitchen taking calls for AAA. There were no supervisors busy on the phone. There was no one in a cubicle next to Mike who could hear the way he talks to customers. There was no "this call may be monitored for quality assurance." The annual premium for the new policy I took out was $1300 less that what AAA was quoting me to renew. Three weeks later, that insurer cancelled me due to the fact there was a claim on my AAA policy. Within days my excellent credit rating tanked. Banks lowered my credit limit on credit cards and increased the interest rate. I had to make numerous calls to my credit card lenders. Write letters to the lenders. Create disputes. I had to send dispute letters to the three credit unions, signature/return receipt, at $10 each. And now, after days and days of searching, researching, and phone calls, I've found ONE insurer that will insure me with both a claim and a cancellation on my record - at an astronomical price that I wouldn't pay even if I could afford it. AAA doing this has cost me lots of money, lots of time and lots of effort. It will take a very long time to build my credit score back up to the "excellent" rating I had. I will pay more for credit for a very long time going forward. I cannot just erase my homeowner's insurance claim and cancellation history. THANK YOU AAA for screwing me over. THANK YOU MIKE for your gruff demeanor and lack of even minimal effort to assist a AAA customer. In case you would like some of this abuse for yourself, you can get in touch with "Mike" at 888-929-4222. He'll make your day.
