I sell high-end designer bags and shoes that I purchased years ago, and until now, I’ve received only 5-star reviews from all buyers.However, last week a buyer (whom I suspect may be a scammer) filed a complaint claiming that a pair of unworn, boxed Gucci shoes — complete with their original authenticity code — were fake. Depop then asked me to provide the original receipt, and said that if I couldn’t, they would issue a refund.If anyone keeps receipts from 10 years ago, good for them — but it’s completely unreasonable to expect that. These kinds of products always come with internal authenticity codes anyway, which can be verified.What shocked me most was that Depop offered a refund without even requiring the buyer to return the shoes. I couldn’t believe this was even an option.I signed up using an Apple account, which apparently made my email unresponsive. I’ve tried multiple times to update my email address in the system, but it never works.If you rely on income from your sales here to manage your finances — stay away! This platform does not protect sellers from fraudulent buyers.
