It's absolutely not what it used to be. I am part of the many many people Emirates had stranded in Dubai mid April. While the weather was out of hand for them, they continued to let people fly in, even days after the rain, when nothing was working in Dubai. Fully aware, that anybody with a layover in Dubai would be stranded under pretty poor conditions for days, they just continued doing so. Now I am chasing reimbursement for expenses and they intentionally make it so tedious to fill form after form, that I am sure many will just give up. A disgrace and systematic disrespect for customers.
