This complaint is about ITV Studios DVD releases and could be both either ITV Studios themselves or a DVD/distributor who sells them on ITV's behalf.Their releases of shows from their back catalogue (1970/80s/90s) have been very sluggish for a long time now. If you do want to find a specific show from the past that you remember watching the first time and want to watch it again don't always expect it to be on DVD, a streaming or download service or on their new ITVX online service which they rave about all the time. Of course the very well known shows you'll probably find but I mean more shows that were popular at the time but aren't remembered very much at all well now, even if certain members of the public regard it as their favourite show. For example, ITV will sell you any show that you want via a private sale between you and them (provided the material isn't lost or has been wiped over). Two series of a comedy show (30 minutes each episode) will set you back £2060 and will be sent to you via digital files or on a DVD. The latter would be better. This is the price you have to pay if this show you want has never been ever released on DVD or because an old DVD copy is now out of print. I think I'd rather by it on DVD or via an official download price for the average price of (£10-£15) rather than £2060 for 6 1/2 hours of Standard Definition footage. This doesn't even include subtitles even when you know they do have them. I mentioned that my mother was HOH and we watched everything with the subtitles on, but that didn't change there mind. I might expect it for 1970s programmes but not programmes post-1981/1982. So be aware if you do have a rare comedy or drama series that you want to see again that was made by ITV Studios (minus Thames Television outputs). These are handled by another company and are not so lazy when it comes to releasing lesser well known programmes from the past 40-50 years as of 2024.
